Phase 1
Now that you have all the major accounts setup and applications installed, let’s move on to the next phase. Here are the following things we’ll be covering in Phase 1:
- HTML & CSS
- JavaScript
- Trello
- Figma
- Practice Campaigns
1. HTML & CSS
Now, everyone doesn’t need to go through this step, but if you’d like more knowledge of HTML & CSS, here is a great resource for you. This video has informative time stamps as well if you’d like to move around. We recommend everyone to check the timestamps in description of the video to confirm there know of all the topics before moving on. Feel free to reach out to your Mentor or other developer if you have any questions.
CSS Flexbox and CSS Grid are important topics that you should know how to use. Make sure you know them before you proceed.

2. JavaScript
As most of our work is done through JavaScript, it is always best to strengthen our theoretical knowledge along with the practical knowledge you’ll be gaining here. Eloquent JavaScript is a great online resource and you can access it here. Feel free to read the book in your preferred format from the options on the website. If you have some knowledge of JS already, we would still recommend going through the chapters while you work in parallel.
3. Trello
Trello has a workspace for our team and all our work is assigned there. Read more about how we use our Trello workspace.
4. Figma
Figma is a web-based prototyping tools. Most of the design mockups are shared to us using Figma. Everyone should know how to analyse a mockup design, be it a developer or a QA. Here’s a great guide by the Figma team on how to to inspect the design requirements.
5. Practice Campaigns
We have compiled few practice campaigns for you and here’s what we need you to do.
- Go through the brief one by one provided here.
- Make sure to ask any questions and clear any doubts regarding the requirement with your mentor.
- Estimate the number of hours it will take you to develop it. We are not testing how fast you are but how accurate you are about your skills. Pass these estimations to your Mentor.
- Start working on the campaign.
- Pass the code in Trello to your Mentor for review using notepad.pw links or by uploading to your OptiPhoenix Google Drive.
- Jump on a code review feedback call with your mentor.
- Implement feedback if any.
- Let your mentor know the total number of hours you worked on the campaign and discuss the difference in estimations if any.
- Work on the next brief.
Here are some resources that might help and you should keep in mind for these practice campaigns.
